2FA stands for **Two-Factor Authentication**. It’s an extra layer of security added to your online accounts, making it much harder for unauthorized access, even if someone has your password.

Think of it like having two locks on your door instead of just one. Even if someone picks the first lock (your password), they still need the key for the second lock (the 2FA code).

**How 2FA Works:**

2FA requires you to provide two forms of identification to log in:

1. **Something you know:** This is your password.
2. **Something you have:** This is usually a code generated by an app on your phone (like Google Authenticator or Authy), or a code sent to your phone via SMS. Sometimes it can be a physical security key.

**Why 2FA is Important:**

**Setting Up 2FA:**

Most online services offer 2FA. Go to your account settings or security settings and look for the 2FA option. You’ll usually need to scan a QR code with your authenticator app or enter your phone number for SMS-based 2FA.

**Best Practices:**

* **Use Authenticator Apps:** Authenticator apps are generally the most secure and convenient option.
* **Back Up Your 2FA:** If you lose your phone, you could lose access to your accounts. Make sure you back up your 2FA setup (usually a recovery code or a way to restore your authenticator app).
